Collection: Jade

Jade is a beautiful and highly treasured gemstone with a history stretching back thousands of years. Rather than being one single mineral, the name Jade refers to two distinct materials — Jadeite and Nephrite.

Jadeite is a sodium aluminium silicate, while Nephrite is a tough, interlocking variety of the amphibole minerals Tremolite and Actinolite. Both are exceptionally durable and can take a beautiful polish, which is why Jade has been used for centuries to create jewellery, tools, ceremonial objects and intricate carvings.

Although Jade is most famous for its beautiful green colouring, it occurs in a surprisingly wide range of colours, including white, cream, yellow, brown, black and lavender. Different varieties and localities can have their own distinctive colours, patterns and translucency.

Here in New Zealand, Nephrite Jade is especially significant. Known as Pounamu or Greenstone, it has immense cultural importance to Māori and has traditionally been carved into treasured tools, weapons and adornments.

Metaphysically, Jade is traditionally associated with good fortune, prosperity, harmony, protection and wisdom. Green Jade is commonly connected with the Heart Chakra and is believed to encourage emotional balance, compassion and a sense of calm.

From polished stones and carvings to beautiful jewellery, Jade is a timeless material valued for its strength, beauty and incredible history.
