Agni Manitite – Pearl of Divine Fire
Agni Manitite is an unusual natural volcanic glass found in Indonesia, particularly on the islands of Java and Sumatra. The name is derived from Sanskrit, with “Agni” referring to fire and “Mani” to a jewel or precious stone, giving rise to the beautiful name “Pearl of Divine Fire.”
These fascinating stones can appear almost black at first glance, but when held up to a strong light they reveal gorgeous smoky grey-brown and translucent tones hidden within. Some pieces glow around their thinner edges, while others can be beautifully translucent throughout.
Agni Manitite is sometimes referred to as a “pseudo-tektite” because of its resemblance to natural tektites. Unlike true tektites such as Moldavite, however, Agni Manitite is generally considered to be volcanic glass rather than material formed through a meteorite impact.
