Iceland Spar, also known as Optical Calcite or Clear Calcite, is a beautifully transparent variety of Calcite famous for an optical phenomenon known as birefringence, or double refraction. When you look through a clear section of the crystal, a single image can appear doubled as the light entering the Calcite splits into two separate rays.
Its natural cleavage produces the distinctive rhomboid shape associated with Iceland Spar, making it as fascinating scientifically as it is beautiful to collect.
The exceptional clarity of this piece allows the light to travel beautifully through the crystal, revealing gorgeous internal rainbows, reflections and optical effects.
Metaphysically, Optical Calcite is traditionally associated with clarity, insight and fresh perspective. It is believed to help clear mental fog, encourage focus and bring greater understanding when situations feel confusing or uncertain.
It is also associated with cleansing and amplifying energy and intention. Some crystal traditions connect Iceland Spar's natural double-refraction effect with the ability to see situations from more than one perspective — encouraging discernment, intuition and a deeper understanding of what may lie beneath the surface.
Often associated particularly with the crown chakra, it is a beautiful crystal for meditation, spiritual exploration and bringing a light, clear and uplifting energy into your space.
A truly special collector's piece with incredible size, clarity and beautiful rainbow-filled character.
