It is still an absolutely beautiful piece — you just need to move it around to discover its colours. Rainbow Obsidian is incredibly difficult to capture accurately in photographs, so these photos were taken outdoors in natural sunlight to show the flash as clearly as possible.

Rainbow Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed when silica-rich lava cools rapidly. Its beautiful rainbow sheen is created by microscopic layers and inclusions within the Obsidian that interact with light, producing flashes and bands of colour.
Depending on the angle and lighting, Rainbow Obsidian can reveal greens, purples, magentas, golds and other subtle colours that can remain almost completely hidden until the stone is held at just the right angle. This ever-changing effect is part of what makes Rainbow Obsidian so fascinating.
