Obsidian

Obsidian is a fascinating natural volcanic glass formed when silica-rich lava cools so quickly that crystals don't have time to develop. The result is a smooth, glass-like material with a beautiful natural lustre.

While classic Black Obsidian is the most familiar variety, Obsidian can have some incredible natural effects. Silver Sheen and Gold Sheen Obsidian display shimmering silver or golden reflections, while Rainbow Obsidian can reveal beautiful bands of green, purple, blue, gold and other colours when viewed in the right light. Snowflake Obsidian is another distinctive variety, featuring pale snowflake-like patterns within the dark volcanic glass.

Metaphysically, Obsidian is believed to be a powerful grounding and protective stone. It is associated with strength, clarity and releasing unwanted or negative energy, and is commonly connected with the Root Chakra.
